- Doctor-supervised
What is Kati Basti?
In Kati Basti a dough ring is placed on the lower back and filled with warm medicated oil, held and kept warm for a set time. The warmth and oil soak into the area to ease stiffness and calm the aggravated Vata behind low-back pain and sciatica (Gridhrasi).
It is not the same as internal Basti (enema). Nothing is given internally. Matra Basti and Tikta Ksheer Matra Basti are a different, internal step in the same protocol family.
Who it is for
Kati Basti is the oil step for sciatica, lumbar spondylosis and low back pain at this clinic — and may be used with Greeva Basti in cervical cases. It is part of a course, not a one-off spa sitting.
Sitting context at this clinic
Kati Basti is used inside the sciatica / lumbar / cervical protocol family. Sittings follow severity: some presentations 3–4 sittings, some a 7-day course, some a 14-day course. Alongside it: Snehan–Swedan, Agnikarma, Viddha Karma and Tikta Ksheer Matra Basti; leech in some cases.
Day-1 assessment
On the first consult Dr. Chaitanya Gupta tells you whether Panchakarma can help this back as a primary plan, only support it, or whether a medical or surgical opinion should come first — especially progressive weakness, saddle anaesthesia, or bladder or bowel change.
Honest expectations
Kati Basti eases pain and stiffness as part of a plan. Sitting bands are typical, not promised. Degenerative change is managed, not reversed.
